Description: A young boy who loves bees decides to capture a bee, put it in the freezer and tie a string around it to make it his friend, but soon learns that friendship cannot be forced...

Now I might be a little biased, as The Boy and His Bee was written, published and printed as a gift to me by Jenny-Wren Smith, but in truth I don't think I am. Anyone reading the book would have to appreciate the effort, skill and love that has gone into it. The simplistic story is complimented beautifully by the black, white and yellow image of our two characters the Boy, and of course, his Bee.

I'm sure a competent reviewer would go into detail about the various allegories the book holds - that of freedom, that of friendships blooming in between people of different cultures, and of course that of the relationship between humanity and bees and the traumatic effect the decline of bees due to Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) could have on our modern civilisation – but I'm not going to do that. Instead I am going to tell you that The Boy and His Bee is a beautiful, simple, perfect book, and the most wonderful present I have ever received.
