It is a true shame, as the Book Depository is a friendly, customer facing company, which boasts a great blog and regular competitions, and it is quite plausible that it will be swallowed up whole by the faceless giant. It has been stated that The Book Depository will continue to act independently of the parent company, but who knows how long that will last.
I've often heard it said that people use The Book Depository because it is cheap, has free worldwide delivery and, above all, it is not Amazon. Well, now only two thirds of that statement appears to be true.
So, with an ever growing Publishing wing, plus the ownership of various book selling websites such as Audible.com and AbeBooks, and a strong hold on the eBook market thanks to the Kindle, it seems that Amazon are on an unstoppable rise to written word dominance.
