But, in truth it is pretty cool, and it has grown very nicely over the year with consistently more people visiting every month, and yes, everyone is amazing and everything I have reviewed and been sent to review has been great.
If you sent me a book to review, or an audio book, or a Kobo, or a random pair of headphones... Thank you!
Same goes to those of you (Sheryl, “C”, Alex) who have have written guest reviews. To those of you who have promised guest reviews but not yet delivered... I'm waiting!
Over the next year I hope to branch out into author interviews and maybe a competition or two. I also expect to post more rambling blog posts, and maybe if you are lucky (or cursed, depending on how you look at it) I'll even get around to uploading a little fiction. You lucky beggars.
The comments system is nearly up and running, and in the near future you will be able to log in via twitter or facebook or some other new fangled social network site to comment, so I look forward to discussing reviews and book news with you. And discretely deleting nasty comments and spam, I'm sure.
In a few months time I'll be going off to University as a “Mature Student”. That's a laugh. I'm going to be studying a combined honours degree of Publishing Media and History. I hope this will open up lots of new opportunities, both personally, professionally and for the website. Thankfully I will be working remotely from Oxford in my current role in Marketing & Promotions at the lovely indie publisher I never seem to name (it's DragonRising, if you are interested), so no flipping burgers or pouring pints for me.
I don't really know where this “birthday” post is going. I only really wanted to acknowledge the fact that the website has been going strongly and that I hope it continues to do so, but I guess it's nice to look forward and think about all the things I've got planned.
Anyway, one more thank you (though I am aware this is not an awards ceremony) goes to Jenny-Wren Smith, my rather amazing girl-friend. She may not read much, but she is a most fantastic artist and has contributed pretty much every drawing on IwishIwasabook.com, including the lovely Happy Birthday Bear! (see below. Oh, and I've only just noticed that she has put a shameless piece of self-promotion at the bottom of the drawing, I was planning on hyper-linking to your website, dear... well, anyway, THANKS JENNY, LOVE YOU.)
I guess that sums it up.
Ta!
